Hazel has turned 16! She continues homeschooling (this year in geometry, physics & literature) and taking (one or two at a time) Portland Community College college-credit courses. She finished 2nd year Spanish in the spring, this fall has been taking Painting (click here for her web page), and this winter will do American History and Ballet. She has made quite a cool Flash animation about why she likes homeschooling (drawing it and playing the piano accompaniment herself) with which she won the grand prize of $1000 in a national contest! Her dancing now includes a lot of tango.
Marion is waltzing and dancing some tango. She's still working with some friends on ZAT (a collaborative map-based travel information website) but has been very occupied since June with restoring a little nearby house (106+ photos) that she bought.
We went back to Spain (briefly over Hazel's spring break in March), visiting Barcelona, Segovia & Madrid (134 photos).
Jack's cycling added up to a little over 6000 miles this year and included 3 week-long tours and long rides to and from our 9th Unschooler's Chautauqua on the Oregon coast. Photo albums for those trips are also at Picasa.
Other dancing this year included Folklife in Seattle (by train with H's 2 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 friends, cousin, aunt & our friend Amy), Chehalis contra dance camp as part of a week in Vancouver B.C. and several weekend waltz workshops & tango festivals in Portland.
We'd be very pleased to have you write us (jack, marion and/or hazel) and check out earlier years' photos and news:
